No. Florida statute treats an electric bicycle the same as a conventional bicycle, so there is no licence, registration or insurance requirement for Class 1, 2 or 3 e-bikes. Riders must be at least 16 to operate a Class 3, and helmets are required by law for anyone under 16.

Plan on roughly 60 to 70 percent of the advertised figure. Manufacturer range is measured with a light rider, on flat ground, at the lowest assist setting, with no wind — a set of conditions that does not exist in Northeast Florida. Tell us your real route and we will tell you which models clear it comfortably.

Orders ship direct from the manufacturer's warehouse rather than through us, which keeps the cost down and cuts a step out of the journey. Shipping times and costs vary by brand and are shown at checkout, along with tracking once the order is on its way.

Mostly. Electric bikes typically arrive around 85 percent assembled — the front wheel, handlebars, pedals and saddle need fitting, which takes about 30 to 45 minutes with the tools in the box. If you would rather not, any local bike shop will finish and safety-check it for a modest fee, and we would recommend that if you are at all unsure about brake or torque settings.

Not yet — we do not have a showroom. What we do instead is narrow the field properly: tell us how far you ride, on what surface, and where the bike has to live, and we will point you at one or two models and explain the trade-offs. We will also tell you when the less expensive one is the right answer.

The manufacturer does, directly. That is worth knowing before you buy rather than after, so we will tell you plainly what each brand's warranty covers, how long it runs, and what their support is actually like to deal with. It is one of the reasons some models are on our list and others are not.

We do not offer service. The good news is that most of what an e-bike needs — brakes, drivetrain, tyres, bearings — is ordinary bicycle work that any local shop can do. Electrical faults go back to the manufacturer under warranty. We factor parts availability and support quality into what we list, because a bike nobody can get parts for is a bad buy at any price.

A quality pack holds around 80 percent of its original capacity after 700 to 1,000 full charge cycles, which for most riders is four to six years. Store it between 30 and 80 percent when you are away for a while, and keep it out of a closed car in July.

Returns are handled under the manufacturer's policy, which varies by brand — the window, the condition requirements and who pays return shipping all differ. Check the policy on the product page before you order, and ask us if anything is unclear. We would rather answer the question up front than have you find out afterwards.
